By the early 1980s the big four-cylinder Kawasaki double overhead cam engines had already become legendary both on road and track, having seen use since the early 1970s in the now legendary Z1s and its successors. They had consistently impressed with their power output and almost unbelievable reliability. To celebrate factory racer Eddie Lawson's victory in the 1981 American Motorcycle Association Superbike Championship, Kawasaki decided to build the KZ1000R, The Eddie Lawson Replica. Based on the KZ1000J model, the Eddie Lawson Replica has a changed steering geometry and riding position, with a dropped seat height, footpegs set four inches further back and an inch higher. Other changes from the standard version are 4-1 exhaust, four row oil cooler, wider rear rim, special handlebar and various other componentry, such as altered brake system, fuel tank, bikini fairing, etc. Always a limited series, the Eddie Lawson Replica is a rare motorcycle, and one which is difficult to find in good condition.
The Classic Bike House 1983 Eddie Lawson Replica is in truly excellent, largely original condition, with the odometer showing 65.000 kilometers. The paint is flawless and, its age considered, the motorcycle shows almost no signs of the passing of time. Most of this model were in the Kawasaki lime green colour, with only a very select few in the ultra-rare and elegant white version, which we think suits the model really well. It has stood in an extensive private collection for a number of years. This is one of the famous motorcycles of the era that would be a very exciting ride, or look amazing in any collection.
As always, do contact us for further information on the motorcycle, including giving you a live video walkaround inspection.
